URGENT: Blue & Gold Fleet to Discontinue Service Between San Francisco and Angel Island State Park

12/15/2020

URGENT: Help ensure that the public will have access to Angel Island
Picture
What: Blue & Gold Fleet has filed with the California Public Utilities Commission for Authorization to Discontinue Scheduled Passenger Transport Service Between San Francisco and Angel Island State Park (Application A.20-09-004) and between San Francisco and Tiburon (Application A.20-09-005).  A decision might be made as soon as this week!

What does this mean: Ending the ferry service would cut off thousands of students and visitors of all ages from visiting Angel Island and the US Immigration Station there, a designated National Heritage Site.

During the years that the station was open from 1910-1940, the site was used to detain, interrogate, and process over 500,000 persons from 80 different countries. This history must be preserved.

Approximately 50% of the visitors to the Immigration Station take the ferry from San Francisco. The public must have access!

What can you do:
  1. Go to the following link and make a public comment opposing discontinuation of service to Angel Island:  http://cpuc.ca.gov/A2009004
  2. Contact CPUC’s Public Advisor’s Office at: Phone: 1-866-849-8390 (toll-free) or 1-415-703-2074 Email: Public.Advisor@cpuc.ca.gov  Please reference Application A.20-09-004 and A.20-09-005 in any communications with the CPUC regarding this matter.
  3. Contact Blue & Gold Fleet, L.P. Phone: (415) 707-8200  Email:  info@blueandgoldfleet.com
Please help spread the word!!
Voice your concerns to all 3 contacts.

Trivia Question 1

Congratulations to these first 8 winners (lucky number) who answered our November Trivia Question correctly!  Consider your props received!
  • Anonymously yours (and retired)
  • Claudia Jeung (retired)
  • Victor D'Amore
  • Lonnie Chin (former principal of Spring Valley Science School, 1852)
  • Lily Mok
  • Edna Gee
  • Esther (Chinatown Footprints)
  • Ruby Tsang (Abraham Lincoln High School)
The school featured in our November Trivia Question is Gordon J. Lau Elementary, initially called the Chinese Primary School which opened in 1885. Although the school gave Chinese students access to a public school education, it was created specifically so that San Francisco could maintain segregation of its schools and separated "children of Mongolian or Chinese descent" from their peers. To learn more about the Tape v Hurley case that started it all, see slides 20-24 in TACT's powerpoint of how Chinese Challenged Unfair Laws in Court (go to tactsf.org >> Curriculum >> Google Drive >> High School U.S. Hist and Ethnic Studies).
