  • Chinese Center (3rd Floor, SFPL Main Library) – Square and Circle Club Display and Videos on their history and Chinese American Veterans
  • Children’s Center (2nd Floor, SFPL Main Library) – APIA WWII Veterans Wall of Fame Display and Book Display
  • “APIA Library Scavenger Hunt” at SFPL Main with the first 50 children receiving prizes for completing the scavenger hunt that will take them all over the library to look for APIA related answers/items

SFUSD Ethnic Studies Department Adopts Chinatown Rising

4/27/2022

TACT has been an avid supporter of the film Chinatown Rising since its premiere in January  2019. In November of that year, TACT and AAAA hosted a screening of the film for SFUSD educators and their families. Attendees had the opportunity to hear from the directors and participate in a Q & A session. Since then, TACT has continued to be a resource, contributing to the creation of a Study Guide of lessons to be used in classrooms and hosting a discussion panel of educators to advise the creation process of the curriculum guide. TACT has always felt that the story of Chinatown Rising needed to be shared and further, needed to be taught. Our efforts came to fruition this Spring when we proudly shared the film and curriculum guide with SFUSD’s Ethnic Studies Dept. As a result, Ethnic Studies endorsed and adopted the film for use in its Ethnic Studies classes throughout the district. This Spring, the following schools will be using it in their curriculum: Marshall, Burton, Balboa, Ida B Wells, George Washington, Galileo, Lowell, and Downtown High School. In the Fall, licenses for the remaining dozen high schools will be purchased as well. TACT is extremely proud of its role in the implementation of the film and curriculum guide in SFUSD classrooms and are honored to lend its support to such a groundbreaking film.

To cap off Educator Appreciation Week and kick off AAPI Heritage Month, the filmmakers of Chinatown Rising are inviting all Educators to the first theater screening of its final re-edited version on Saturday, May 7th.
